Quixaya is a large village some eight miles from San Lucas. Up to a few years ago, anyone wanting to consult or read a book had to make the journey to San Lucas, or to the town of Patulul, twelve miles away

A volunteer in San Lucas, Candace, saw the need and acted. Together with a friend, they raised funds, got the land, built the library, got the books, and got the librarians trained!

The library now attends two thousand five hundred people a month. They also run vacation workshops for grade school students.
