
The volcano Atitlan rises to some 6,000 ft above San Lucas, which is itself just over 5,000 ft above sea level
The volcano was active for some 300 years, and has a crater about 300 yards across by 60 yards deep. The last time it erupted was in 1843
Visitors sometimes hike up the volcano, which provides a challenging full day climb, but breathtaking views from the summit (when it's not cloudy!)
